Name origin
Named for F. G. Oxley, owner of the Oxley Stave Factory of Poplar Bluff
Previous names
Before the 1880s, the town was called Martinsburg.
With the coming of the railroad, the town became Oakdale but the post office was
named Varner when it reopened in 1883. By 1900, the name
changed permanently to Oxly.
