Name origin
Named after Stephen W. Fisk, postmaster and general store owner
Previous names
The town was originally located on the east
side of the St. Francois River in Stoddard County and known
as Poplin (probably a family name). When the town and post office relocated
to the Butler County side, it was renamed to Fisk after
the postmaster.
